Gift Book Collections

We stock a gorgeous range of book collections which are hard to resist. Every year publishers are bringing out stunning new ranges which we just have to stock!  If we are out of a particular title when you pay us a visit, we can order it for you.. quite often for next day collection. Some of our ranges can be seen below.

Everyman Library

Founded in 1906, the Everyman Library has stood the test of time. Antonia Byatt called it "a form of civilisation" and the design of their pocket classics show they are keeping up with the times. Across the ranges they are hardbacks with cream acid free paper, cloth binding and silk ribbon markers.

EVERYMAN CLASSICS are the largest sized of the range with titles such as Aeschylus' "Oresteia" and Michael Ondaatji's "English Patient"

EVERYMAN CHILDREN'S CLASSICS have over 50 titles in rather more colourful hardbacks with illustrated plates and attractive spines.  Grimm's Fairy tales are illustrated by Arthur Rackham and R L Green's"King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table2 are illustrated by Aubrey Beardsley.

EVERYMAN POCKET CLASSICS  are colourful, pocket sized editions of collections of short stories.  Perhaps the most popular of the ranges, "Dog Stories" and " Stories of the Sea" are our bestsellers.  Everyman describe the beautifully designed "Stories from the Kitchen" as a "mouth-watering smorgasbord of stories with food in the starring role"!

EVERYMAN POCKET POETS  are the smallest of the range but have the greatest poets. Rumi, Rossetti and Rimbaud are here.

EVERYMAN P G WODEHOUSE  Look no further if you want want a comprehensive collection of Wodehouse.  All the quality of Everyman books with jackets humorously illustrated by Andrzej Klimowski.

Harper Collins Facsimile Editions

Want to collect "the Queen of Crime"? This range of Agatha Christie hardback facsimile editions from the 1920's and 30's are the ones to buy. Pure nostalgia, look out for the jackets of "And Then there were None" and "Sparkling Cyanide".

Macmillan Collector's Library

Bang up to date in a beautiful duck egg blue, these hardback classics are very collectable or ideal as a gift. They are pocket sized and perfect with gilt edges and ribbon markers. The range includes fiction, non fiction, poetry, short stories and children's books. Austen, Dickens and Shakespeare are all here.

Penguin Clothbound Classics

In our opinion the jewel in the crown and once you've set eyes on these, you'll want to collect them all. These books are works of art; colourful, tactile cloth bound hardbacks with foil stamped into the design by Coralie Bickford-Smith of "The Fox and the Star" fame.

Coralie takes one element from each book and repeats it on the cover, for example "Madame Bovary" is covered in poppy pods and "Far from the Madding Crowd" bees.  Bronte's "Jane Eyre" is our bestseller. They make the perfect gift but you may just keep them for yourself!

Penguin Little Black and Modern Classics

Conceived as 80 little books for Penguin's 80th birthday, these little black classics have now expanded to 150 titles.

It's here that you can find Charlotte Perkins Gilman's terrifying "Yellow Wallpaper" or Mozart's letters "My Dearest Father". These paperbacks are a perfect gift to pop in with a card or use as a stocking filler from as little as 80p.

Penguin Monarchs Series

A planned series of 45 short biographies of our monarchs, each by a different historian.

Every cream book is A5 size, the monarchs title stamped in gold and with sumptuously illustrated dust jackets. With fewer than 150 pages, these books will give you a basic knowledge of our kings and queens in a readable format by a heavyweight historian. Warning, you will want to collect them all! Now also available in paperback.

Pocket Penguins

A series of unusual, colourful little paperbacks from English, European, Russian and Asian authors. The range includes Zola's "The Beast Within", Jaroslav Hasek's "The Good Soldier Svejk" and "Sanshiro" by Natsume Soseki.

Persephone

We're delighted to stock Persephone books. It's here that you will find reprints of forgotten fiction and non-fiction of the twentieth century. Although mainly female authors such as Monica Dickens, Marghanita Laski and Penelope Mortimer there are also real gems by R C Sherriff  (Greengates, The Fortnight in September) and Duff Cooper.

These unique books have a generic grey cover (with some exceptions such as our bestseller "Somewhere at a Distance" by Dorothy Whipple) with colourful patterned end papers and matching bookmark.  As a result these books are timeless.
