New English Interiors is a celebration of an endlessly evolving and consistently forward-looking style that is enjoying a renewed popularity among today's young creatives.

A deep-dive into the homes of 22 of England’s most exciting creatives, with interiors writer Elizabeth Metcalfe and photographer Dean Hearne.

Of the countless interior design trends that come and go every year, there is one that endures: the ever-evolving English style.

An inspiration to people across the world, it is a style rich with colour, pattern and a certain eccentricity. Wallpapers, fabrics, charming details and lovingly collected objects are all among the key components of a style that embraces individuality and benefits from its layers being allowed to evolve slowly.

New English Interiors explores over 20 homes – a handful of which have not been published before - belonging to some of England’s most exciting creatives, from interior designers and illustrators to artists and antique dealers. With original photography by Dean Hearne and illuminating insights into how these interiors came together, it promises to be an inspiring visual feast. From fashion stylist and designer Lucinda Chambers’ colourful kaleidoscope of a home in west London to illustrator Fee Greening’s earthy toned cottage in Dorset, this is a celebration of colour and pattern in its infinite variety.

Other interiors featured belong to the likes of designer Cath Kidston, artists Annie Morris and Idris Khan and designers Luke Edward Hall and Duncan Campbell. While they range aesthetically from the bold and theatrical to the more earthy and homespun, there is one thing that unites them all: they are deeply personal visual moodboards for their owners. None of them are static either: these interiors are ever-evolving and that is part of their joy.

Featuring everything from small city flats to country cottages, this promises to be the perfect inspiration for anyone who might want to live with glorious layers of colour and pattern. It is also a lesson in how to let our personalities – with their many facets and quirks – guide how we decorate our homes.

Biba dominated London fashion from the mid-1960s and, for over a decade, it defined the dress and outlook of a generation. Celebrating the sixtieth anniversary of the opening of the first Biba boutique, this book takes a revealing look at Biba through the words and images of the people who were intimately involved with the company and its phenomenal success.

Established in 1963 as Biba Postal Boutique – a small mail-order company selling inexpensive clothing for women and children – by 1973 Biba was a seven-storey department store on London’s Kensington High Street. Customers could fill their wardrobes and furnish their home with Biba products; Biba had become the world’s first lifestyle label. Visitors to the store could buy a tin of Biba baked beans, take tea on Europe’s largest roof garden or watch live music from The New York Dolls’, Iggy Pop or Liberace in the 500-seat Rainbow Room.

Created by Barbara Hulanicki and her husband, Fitz, Biba was made in the image of its staff and customers. Selling up-to-the-minute clothing at affordable prices, Biba appealed to teenagers and young women of the post-war generation, becoming the fashion destination of the Swinging Sixties and seventies. Biba was the place to see and to be seen; its doors were open to everyone, from The Rolling Stones, Marianne Faithfull and Twiggy to David Bowie and Freddie Mercury.

Biba: The Fashion Brand that Defined a Generation includes photographs by Helmut Newton, Sarah Moon and Duffy, as well as never-before-seen ephemera from the personal archive of Barbara Hulanicki. Interviews with the people closest to Biba serve to bring these images and objects to life, while recollections and anecdotes from Barbara herself shine a new light on the very personal nature of Biba as a business.

The No.1 Sunday Times Bestseller

The explosive new book from Britain’s leading investigative biographer, Tom Bower

As one of the most famous and influential couples in the world, David and Victoria Beckham have attained iconic status. The ultimate power couple have together built a multi-billion-dollar global brand. For decades, adoring fans have been captivated by the glamorous world they have created, while their unrivalled fusion of showbiz, fashion, football and celebrity has been cultivated alongside the image of a strong marriage.

When the much-trailed Netflix documentary Beckham aired in 2023, viewers were offered an even more intimate insight into their private lives. Produced by the Beckhams themselves, the series raised many questions, not only about their success and personal relationship, but also about the ruthlessly successful management of their image in the media. Are their lives really as perfect as the Beckhams would like the world to believe?

Through extensive research, expert sourcing and interviews with insiders, Britain’s most celebrated investigative biographer, Tom Bower, has unearthed a succession of revelations that give surprising insight into the reality of ‘Brand Beckham’. Exploring the couple’s relationship, and the truth about their football and fashion careers, their finances and their new life in Miami, The House of Beckham unravels the extraordinary reality of the business-savvy cultural icons to tell an engrossing, often astonishing story of money, sex and power.

In this manifesto for change, one of the world's pre-eminent designers explores how buildings and cities around the world lost their soul - and what we can do about it. Thomas Heatherwick shows how design has a profound effect on our mental and physical health, the climate, as well as the peace and cohesion of societies. He shows how a flawed idea of utility and 'efficiency' has engulfed our towns and cities and hardened into a form of bland minimalism. But it doesn't have to be this way: there are other ways to build - with the power to lift our spirits, engage and connect us. Heatherwick draws on his own work, the ideas of other experts in the field, and recent advances in neuroscience and cognitive psychology to offer both a case against the inhumanity of modernist design and a rallying cry to everyone to imagine the world anew.

From one of the world’s most imaginative designers comes a story about humanity told through the lens of our buildings.

‘This book is a super-accessible guide as to why we shouldn’t put up with soulless buildings and how we might change that’ GRAYSON PERRY

*****

Our world is losing its humanity.

Too many developers care more about their shareholders than society. Too many politicians care more about power than the people who vote for them. And too many cities feel soulless and depressing, with buildings designed for business, not for us.

So where do we find hope?

Thomas Heatherwick has an alternative. By changing the world around us, we can improve our health, restore our happiness, and save our planet. The time has come to put human emotion back at the heart of the design process. Drawing on thirty years of making bold, beautiful buildings, neuroscience and cognitive psychology, Heatherwick brings together vivid stories and hundreds of beautiful images into a visual masterpiece. Humanise will inspire us to do nothing less than remake our world.

*****

‘Thomas Heatherwick brings a velvet sledgehammer to the way we think about buildings and how they change our lives . . . I want to live in the kind of city Heatherwick imagines!’ SIMON SINEK

‘Humanise is a masterwork. It’s quietly furious, impassioned, rigorous and forensic in all the right doses. It leaves me very hopeful indeed about how things could go from here’ ALAIN DE BOTTON

Suzanne Fagence Cooper explores the lives and legacies of Jane and William Morris, finally giving Jane's work the attention it deserves and taking us inside two lives of unparalleled creative artistry.

William Morris – poet, designer, campaigner, hero of the Arts & Crafts movement – was a giant of the Victorian age, and his beautiful creations and provocative philosophies are still with us today: but his wife Jane is too often relegated to a footnote, an artist’s model given no history or personality of her own.

In truth, Jane and William’s personal and creative partnership was the central collaboration of both their lives. The homes they made together – the Red House, Kelmscott Manor and their houses in London – were works of art in themselves, and the great labour of their lives was life itself: through their houses and the objects they filled them with, they explored how we all might live a life more focused on beauty and fulfilment.

In How We Might Live, Suzanne Fagence Cooper explores the lives and legacies of Jane and William Morris, finally giving Jane’s work the attention it deserves and taking us inside two lives of unparalleled creative artistry.
