Description

It is 1946, and the whole country is shocked by the disappearance of a young woman who, according to a note found at the scene of the crime, is the victim of a certain ‘Mr Gregory’. When a second girl disappears, Sir Graham Forbes of Scotland Yard appeals to Temple and Steve for help. Their investigations take them from a lonely Yorkshire clifftop to the Blitz-damaged East End, from a gangster-run Mayfair nightclub to a deserted warehouse on the Thames, always with danger round the corner and Mr Gregory one step ahead. Can Temple and Steve track unmask him before he strikes again? This new production for BBC Radio 4 uses the original scripts, vintage sound effects and much of the original incidental music from the missing 1946 production. As far as possible it is a technical and stylistic replica of how that production might have sounded if its recording had survived.
