A thrilling anthology of 30 original stories paying homage to Alfred Hitchcock's legacy of suspense. Featuring renowned authors like Lee Child and Ian Rankin, the collection reimagines Hitchcockian themes of ordinary lives disrupted by peril and psychological intrigue, offering a modern tribute to the master of suspense.

Birds, Strangers and Psychos is a thrilling anthology that brings together the biggest names in mystery and crime fiction to pay homage to Alfred Hitchcock, the legendary filmmaker whose name is synonymous with suspense. Acclaimed editor Maxim Jakubowski curates 24 original short stories, each inspired by the mood, tension, and style that defined Hitchcock’s groundbreaking work. This anthology invites both emerging and established voices to reimagine the chilling atmospheres, twisted plots, and unforgettable characters of Hitchcock’s films, from Psycho and Vertigo to North by Northwest and The Birds.

Each author takes on the challenge of evoking the quintessentially ‘Hitchcockian’ elements that have captivated audiences for decades: ordinary lives interrupted by peril, psychological duels, and unexpected encounters that spiral into nightmares. The volume showcases an extraordinary blend of talent, including Lee Child, Denise Mina, Sophie Hannah, Vaseem Khan, MW Craven, Jeff Noon and S. A. Cosby and many more!

Just as Hitchcock adapted stories from literary giants like Daphne du Maurier, Patricia Highsmith, and Roald Dahl, Birds, Strangers and Psychos unites today’s literary stars to craft new suspenseful tales that are destined to thrill, haunt, and unsettle. This volume is not just a collection of stories – it’s an invitation to rediscover the artistry of suspense.

An incredible anthology of truly fascinating Victorian tales of the supernatural.

From a dancing automaton running amok at a ball, to a prehistoric beast lurking in the depths of a Yorkshire cave, this anthology explores the nature of the ‘old weird’, and unordinary stories which go outside the boundaries of everyday life.

The anthology includes not only stories by well-known writers like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Jerome K. Jerome, but also by long-forgotten authors such as D. F. Hannigan and Reginald Bacchus. Focusing on the idea and history of what can be classified as ‘old weird’, compared to the ‘new weird’, Rennison applies experience and knowledge of Victorian literary history to bring these supernatural tales to the surface.

Chef Charlie Hunter finds backstabbing among the online celebrities living in her little Chilterns village turning to murder, in the third of the Old Forge Café Mystery series.

‘An irresistibly delicious mix of cooking and murder’ Tricia Ashley

Chef Charlie Hunter is just trying for mindfulness and a work/life balance, if such a thing is ever possible in the context of a busy professional kitchen.

She’s found herself a great podcast that’s going to help her get there. Until she finds that her online self-help guru has feet of clay – feet which are much closer to her restaurant than seems possible.

Even more disruptive is the attack on a well known writer in Charlie’s quiet Chilterns village of Hampden Green, and the arrest of the village’s own celebrity shock jock.

Charlie finds herself dealing with more than she can cope with, and never sure where the next attack will come from. Then mere backstabbing turns to murder?

Charlie Walden picks his way through the issues of the day with satirical good humour, insight and wit. Another entertaining and insightful look at the British court system.

Charlie Walden is the Resident Judge of the Bermondsey Crown Court, where he had hoped for a quiet life, but has found it to be anything but. With the job of balancing the needs of prosecutors, judges, ‘Grey Smoothies’, the humourless grey-suited civil servants, and the overall needs of a Crown Court he soon finds himself struggling to keep the peace and his own delightful humour.

Charlie is confronted by a number of topical issues he hadn’t anticipated; invited to join the Court of Appeal he finds himself faced with a case involving the ‘confusion’ of one of his team. In another a teacher must be penalised for defacing a statue, a huge and mysterious cat comes to the rescue in yet another case, and so the harassed Judge must pick his way through this minefield of exasperating cases in order to keep everyone from the cannabis lobby to the anti-slave traders happy with his judgements.

No hope of a quiet life for Charlie then, but, as ever, he deals with the issues of the day with satirical good humour, insight and wit. Another entertaining and insightful look at the British court system and the long-awaited sole Walden novel.
